Fire We Make - Alicia Keys & Maxwell: this song is so smooth that it sounds like it was an extra off of one of Maxwell’s old album (and is saying a lot). this is the return to good old-fashioned R&B/Soul music. it’s always good to see that not all is lost. enjoy…
it’s been a long minute since i’ve posted about kicks i’ve liked. once again, i’m not the biggest fan of bright sneakers. however, these yellow Maison Martin Margiela Suede Reflector Banded Sneakers really stood out to me. they’re priced at $855.
“Q.U.E.E.N.” - Janelle Monae ft. Erykah Badu
There comes a time in life when two avant-gard divas join forces to create an anthem for rebels, gays, artists, and thinkers. And, well, that time is now. When I think about how much time has passed since Janelle released the ArchAndroid three years ago and the changes brought forth in her absence, I’m reminded just how boring most soul singers really are. Great singers, that’s undeniable, but their complacency lacks the spirit of individuality. Then when I see Janelle get into her groove in preparation of The Electric Lady, I’m reminded how much this genre and industry needs fiercely independent women like her. And the people she surrounds herself with — Badu, Solange, etc. — give me such hope for this movement of Queens.
